Automate Social Bookmarking with Auto Social Poster

October 19th in Premium Plug-ins by .

I don’t know about you but posting my WordPress blog to social bookmarking sites takes me a whole lot of time. I even tried hiring a few people to do that for me, but that really cuts into your profit. After all, why would you want to outsource a task that can be done in-house with a software package.

That’s where Auto Social Poster from Mass Automation comes in. These guys are serial WordPress plug-in makers, and they have done it again with Auto Social Poster plugin. Auto social poster is the first fully-automated service that i have seen for submitting WordPress blogs to social bookmarking sites. The package comes for both Joomla and WordPress, so don’t worry if you are not yet a believer in WordPress.
Here is how the program works. You provide it with information about your bookmarking accounts. Then you define your tags for each post and publish your posts. That’s really all there is to it. The software will grab your tags and submit your posts to your bookmarking sites. You can also do a little social gaming and post to multiple accounts from one blog. Now I don’t recommend doing that, but it’s a possibility.

What I like about Auto Social Poster is the fact that the programmers understand the issue of spam. Social bookmarking sites have become sophisticated over the years in fighting spammers, and the last thing you want to do is look like you are spamming the system. Auto Social Poster has measures to protect you against that such as posting gradually instead of posting a mass number of pages to social bookmarking sites.

The software is not cheap however. You can use this social wordpress plug-in for 100,000 posts, but it will cost you $199, which is about 5 pages for a cent. For me, that is why way more than worth it. Some rent a coder guy charged me $100 to 3 of my sites to 100 social book marking sites, so if I wanted him to do that for 100,000 posts, I would’ve had to pay him a fortune. But with this web application, you are in control, and everything’s done automatically. If you have lots of content, and you are tired of contracting people to do your social bookmarking, this WordPress plugin may be for you. But if you are just starting with blogging, then you may want to settle down before getting Auto Social Poster plug-in.

BlueSky Premium WordPress Theme :: Subscription

October 17th in Premium Themes by .

Whether you are looking to run a fully-fledged WordPress blog or just a corporate site, it is essential to choose a theme that is attractive and provides the platform for your best content to be show cased on your WordPress site.

BlueSky theme is one of the most attractive themes for pro-bloggers and even some of the startups. It is highly customizable and the contrast of colors used on this theme is simply breath-taking.

At the top of the page you have a place to replace the bluesky logi with yours. In addition, the search box is featured right below the logo to encourage users to search for things they want to read on. I also like the fact that there is a section of the top right side of the page that has the most popular entries, the recent entries, and recent comments.

The ad section is also not intrusive which allows you to show ads on your blog without disrupting your readers (see below).

The theme is feature rich but it loads fast and is highly customizable. Best of all, you can get unlimited rights to this domain for only $19 a year. But that’s not all. You get a bunch of other top themes with your subscription. Also, you can keep the themes even if you cancel after your first month. The themes that you download at the time when you had an active subscription are yours to keep, which makes this subscription program more affordable.

Verdict: 4.5 out of 5. The theme is good looking and is feature rich. But if you decide to sell your blog, you will have to purchase a $19 fee to the programmer for his work. I personally think it’s very affordable if you are making $200 or more with your blog to pay something back to your designer. But I could do without it.

Open Source Movement Gains Momentum Among WordPress Designers

October 15th in Wordpress News by .

WordPress is the undisputed king of content management systems out there and more than 70% of blogs use WordPress as their underlying platform. WordPress is easy to use, convenient, and easy to enhance. In fact, many programmers have put their time and effort to produce plugins for free for everyone to use. However, int the theme market it’s a different story. While many WordPress designers have put their time to design simple and easy to use themes, the premium market is always the place people look for for the best WordPress designs. The premium WordPress themes are in general come with single and unlimited licenses and cost from $20 to $500, depending on the quality of the theme.

But it seems now a few top designers are planning to offer their themes for free to public to show their dedication to the open source movement. I always thought that giving themes away for free in return for a text link is generally well worth it, but opening up the source for everyone to make changes can only make the WordPress community better. I don’t know how successful this effort will be, but it is something worth watching out for.

WordPress Lovers Rejoice: WordPress for Dummies II to be releases soon!

October 13th in Wordpress Books by .

WordPress For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))

WordPress is a wonderful CMS built with a wonderful technology. Unfortunately, there are not many books and training programs that address more advanced WordPress issues such as custom fields and how to program them. For instance, I read somewhere a while ago that you can make your posts expire by using custom fields but nobody had proper explanation on it. Of course, it is not difficult to do once you figure it out or somebody tells you how to do it.

WordPress for dummies was first published a year ago and received massive amount of coverage and praise from WordPress experts and publishers alike. However, the book was a bit thin on more advanced techniques and the author has promised to cover those areas in the 2nd edition of this book. The author talks about a wide range of WordPress issues, from the very basic stuff to more advanced WordPress theme issues and even WordPress Mu. The book is not going to cover everything but it is going to cover a whole range of issues that WordPress bloggers face on a daily basis.

This excellent book was supposed to be released in October but was probably pushed back to November due to the new changes in the WordPress platform. But I personally can’t wait till this book is released. Now if Wiley publishing did something about the horrifying title of WordPress for Dummies.

Create a Classified Listings Site with Classipress

October 11th in Premium Themes by .

Craigslist truly revolutionized the idea of running a classified listing site. Now more people are using the similar concept to launch super niche listing sites. But now you can create listings sites on the fly with Classipress premium WordPress theme.

The Classipress is a very simple to use and comes with everything you need to help you run without any additional plug-ins. All you have to do is define your classified site’s categories, and also the image that you want to use per category to differentiate between different listings under the latest listings tab.

You can also define your currency symbol. Currently Dollar, Euro, and Pound are supported with Classipress WordPress Theme. But it wouldn’t be that difficult to program more symbols into the theme. Overall, the theme is very simple to use and yet very powerful. Classipress WordPress theme is also reasonably priced as you get get a single license to it for $79.

Verdict: 4/5 stars. The Classipress classified listing WordPress theme is easy to install and deploy. But we would’ve preferred to have seen a few design options for those not too familiar with “theming” WordPress blogs. In addition, more flexibility would’ve been great. Nevertheless, Classipress is a very powerful niche premium theme.

Pre-Launch Your WordPress Start-up Site with Launchpad Theme

October 9th in Free Themes by .

Due to the nature of sites that use WordPress, many start-up owners often settle for a Flash or a more static platform than WordPress. But with launchpad, now you can pre-launch a start-up or an online site without too much fuss.

Launchpad is not a mind-blowing theme. It’s a very simple free WordPress theme that allows you to put a squeeze box on your start-up page to gather people’s email addresses. It is very well designed, and its license allows you to do as you wish with the template. What I like about launchpad theme is the fact that it fully integrates Feedburner. You can just enter your information in the Dashboard and bam! You have Feedburner on your theme with no code to copy.

One thing that you should be careful about is publishing posts using this theme. Your posts will not be shown on the front page, but the RSS feed reader allows access to your published posts to your subscribers. Make sure you have something other than hello world or “this is a test” as your published posts.

The theme is for free and is GPL licensed. It’s not for a fully-fledged blog, but if you are running a start-up and want to go through a pre-launch before coming out, then you may want to consider LaunchPad WordPress theme.
