I usually try to stay away from non-wordpress topics. After all, there are plenty of websites that teach you how to make money online blogging or how to blog like a pro. But when it comes to starting your WordPress blog, you need to pay extra attention to the domain name you choose for your website. That’s why I have decided to cover domain registration topics in the past. You can have the best blog in the world, but if you have a terrible domain name, you are not going to realize your blog’s full potential. Have you seen some of those WordPress sites that come with beautiful pop-ups when you open them up? While I am not a fan of pop-ups, I can understand why some folks use them to promote their newsletters or products. In reality, you don’t need a program to create popups for your WordPress blog. But you’ve got to know your HTML, CSS, and Javascript. If you have no idea how to write code, you should probably use a solution such as LightPop.

Let’s say you have a Aweber account, and you want to post your newsletter code to your blog as a popup. As you can see in the above picture, you can easily post your code to LightPop’s code area, and it’s automatically converted to a popup. What I like about LightPop is the fact that it allows you to make your popups less annoying. You can redefine the behavior of your popup so that it shows up only the first time someone visits your site. You can even define a certain hour each day to show your popup.
LightPop is a simple but very flexible plugin that allows you to create popups for your WordPress sites fast. If you don’t know any coding, you won’t have to sweat it with LightPop.

A few of my blogging colleagues have asked me a few times about a WordPress theme that would allow them to create their own ProBlogger copycat. Problogger.com uses a very attractive, custom-designed theme, which means you are not going to find anything like it on the market. But there are a few themes that come close. Money Blogger by BlogOhBlog comes closest to anything I have seen on the market. It not only has an attractive design, it’s highly customizable as well.

Money Blogger is a theme created for super bloggers. It has everything you would expect in a pro-blogging theme. You get your RSS and subscription box right at the top of the page. You have your links lined up at the top of the page. The logo can be changed easily in the code. You also get an about me section that you should use to communicate with your readers on the reasons they should be reading your material.
Blog monetization is very easy with Money Blogger. You’ve got two options for your ads. You can use the left sidebar to display your 125*125 ads. Another way to go is by putting your vertical ads on your right sidebar. If you need more space for ads, you can put a 468 * 60 banner under your content tabs (which are CSS based and highly customizable as well).

The code is clean and easy to customize. The guys at BlogOhBlog have create a modular theme in Money Blogger that can be easily customized without too much effort. Overall, if you want to start your very own problogging theme, Money Blogger is an affordable way to get started right away.

A lot of people ask me how they can use their own domain names and host their blogs on WordPress.com. Hosting a blog on WordPress.com is not that hard. In fact, you should always start with that if you are not ready to do it your own way. You should never settle for those xxx.wordpress.com sub-domains as it won’t be your site that you are putting your content on. In reality, the process is very easy to do. All you got to do is buy a domain and change the settings on the back-end of your WordPress.com blog to point your site to the new domain. It’s going to cost you $10 a year, but it’s well worth it. Here is how to do it:
- Purchase a domain on 1&1, GoDaddy, or any other domain registration service.
- Log on to your domain registration account and change the DNS settings to:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COMNS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
- Log on to your WordPress.com account and buy 10 credits for WordPress premium services.
- Click on the Domains tab in the Upgrades section and add your new domain name.

You can always register your domains with WordPress.com. It will cost you $15 a year which is a bit pricey. You can always register a domain for $8-$10 on top popular domain registration sites. The cost of redirecting your Wordress.com blog to your own domain will be $10 per year, which is pretty affordable. If you are tired of using WordPress.com sub-domains, this is a easiest way to get your blog on your own domain.
