Debut Queries is easy to use. Just install the plugin and go to your front-page to see the queries running on your site. This plugin lists the queries running and the execution time for each. By going through the queries, you can clearly see which ones are causing your website problems.

Debug Queries may not be for everyone. But if you want to get your hands dirty with some WordPress debugging, this plugin is well worth checking out. It could provide developers with the information they need to improve the performance of their code.

CalculatorPro Calculators is a customizable calculator plugin for WordPress sites. It has over 200 calculators for webmasters to take advantage of. Chances are you won’t need more than 5 of these unless you are building a portal around calculators. These calculators can be added to your pages, posts, and sidebar fast.

As you can see in the above screenshot, once you have chosen your calculator and defined its color, width, and other settings, you can use the short code provided to add it to your pages. CalculatorPro has a wide variety of these tools, so this plugin should work for most portals.

As I mentioned, I personally prefer working with developers to create superior tools other people want to link to rather than using these types of plugins. Still, this is a useful plugin if you have got limited resources.

Tweet Import lets you choose what you want to import into your site. It creates regular posts from the content of your tweets. Feeds can be imported into different categories. If you have multiple authors on your website, you can add their accounts and file their tweets under their user account. Hashtags are supported too (local and Twitter). Don’t want to show @username on your site? Just turn that option off on the setting page.

Tweet Import has the potential to be abused by spammers and content thieves. Please do not use it to add other people’s Twitter posts to your website. That’s not only unethical, it could get you in trouble. For importing your own tweets, this plugin works like a charm.

Wpoupon for WordPress: a Groupon clone theme for WordPress. Lets you feature your top deals on its home page. It offers Paypal or Authorize.net integration.

Daily Deal: lets you create and manage your own deal portal in WordPress. It has 5 color schemes and a deal moderation system. reCAPTCHA is integrated into it. It can be localized.

Group Deals plugin: not interested in installing a brand new theme to turn your site into a Groupon-clone? This plugin can handle Group Deals on WordPress. It is not perfect but has a lot of potential.

The above themes and plugin are useful for anyone who wants to start a Groupon style site using WordPress. Which one do you like the most?

WP Resume uses custom post types to help you put together a professional online resume. It provides support for sections, organizations, and positions. Users can add their summary and details to their resume in the back-end. You can host multiple resumes on your site. The plugin lets you re-order sections of your resume via drag & drop. It can output your resume in hResume or text format.

You do not have to make drastic changes to your theme to take advantage of this plugin. The WYSIWYG editor makes changing your resume easier. In order to display your resume, just add [wp_resume]  to your pages and you are set. WP Resume is pretty easy to use and gets the job done.

In the past few weeks, I have been searching for plugins and scripts WordPress webmasters can use to integrate Pinterest in their website. There are not too many sophisticated ones around. But you can use these tools and scripts to make your site more Pinterest friendly:

Pinterest RSS Widget: this plugin displays your pins in your sidebar. Uses your Pinterest’s RSS feed to do that. Pretty Pinterest Pins is another plugin that offers almost the same functionality.

Pinterest Profile Button: you can download the code for this button right from Pinterest and drop it to your sidebar.

Pin It Button: Pinterest does have a “Pin It” button that works quite well on WordPress sites. You just have to make some modifications to it (link, image, …). Works in a similar way to Facebook’s Like button.

Subscribe / Connect / Follow: a simple plugin that adds links to your social profiles to your sidebar. It provides support for Pinterest and many other social networks.

Sharebar: Sharebar is one of the most versatile social bookmarking plugins for WordPress. You can add any button to this plugin including the Pin It button mentioned above.

Social Discussions: it adds social bookmarking buttons to your website (supports Pinterest). Automatic sharing for Pinterest is not supported at this point though.

Pinterest does not have as many users as Twitter or Facebook. But it does have a lot of potential. It is well worth being a part of. Thanks to the above tools and plugins, you can make your website more Pinterest friendly.

PulseMaps Visitor Map comes with a widget you can add to your sidebar to display your visitors on a map. The most recent visitors are shown as flashing dots on your website. You have the option to change your widget’s setting from its option page. You can change the color, background, and title of the widget.

Clicking on the widget redirects you to Pulsemap.com, which is the place you can go over a larger map and view your recent visitors. The plugin is fast and compatible with most modern browsers. PulseMaps Visitor Map is a free plugin. You do have the option to upgrade to get even more features.

I am personally not a big fan of adding visitor maps to my sites. But they can give sites more credibility if used the right way. PulseMaps Visitor Map makes adding visitors maps to your website easier.

BackupBuddy: one of the most reliable backup plugins that we have tested. Since this is a premium plugin, you can expect the folks behind it to deliver timely updates. It lets you backup your entire WordPress database to Amazon S3, Rackspace Cloud, and Dropbox.

Backwpup: if you are looking for a free backup plugin for WordPress that is reliable and offers you options, this is one script you should check out. It supports Dropbox, S3, SugarSync, and Microsfot Azure.

WordPress Backup to Dropbox: this is especially useful if you rely mainly on Dropbox to store your backup files. It automates the backup process for you. The plugin uses OAuth so your account information won’t be exposed.

Drop in Dropbox: lets you upload single files or entire directories with subdirectories to your Dropbox account. It can be used for backup and synchronization of your files.

wp Time Machine: another simple plugin that lets you download WordPress data and files. You can use this with your Dropbox or S3 account.

So why 5 plugins instead of one? My experience has shown that these plugins break from time to time (some of them but not all). If you don’t want to stop your backup process, you are going to need alternative plugins that do the very same job. With the above plugins, you have plenty to choose from just in case your favorite Dropbox backup plugin breaks.

SOPA Blackout: one of the best anti-SOPA plugins for WordPress. It adds a customizable page to your website so you can join the blackout movement on January 18th.

Go Dark: another plugin you can use to oppose Internet censorship (SOPA and PIPA). You can use this to join the blackout movement on January 18th (if it goes on). It will return a 503 status code to avoid damaging your search engine rankings.

Stop SOPA Ribbon: one of the best ways to raise awareness against SOPA is by adding a small ribbon to the top of your site. That’s what this plugin does. It does not disturb your visitors, which is a big plus.

Censor Me: adds a “Stop Censorship” link to your website in a way your visitors won’t be able to miss. Simple but effective.

All of these plugins have their merits. Even if SOPA is defeated this time around, we all need to stay vigilant to make sure it does not brought forth again in a repackaged form. The above plugins make it easier for all WordPress users to raise awareness against this bill.

Update: it does seem that the House has given up on SOPA for now. But this fight is far from over.
