So what makes Convergence especial? It may not be the most attractive theme on the market, but it’s one of the most flexible ones around. Convergence is designed to be used as a community theme. It is capable of handling your images and all your content easily. it’s also ad-friendly, so if you are planning to take on sponsors on your blog, you can use Convergence to get the job done.

I have tested may community themes that only offer related posts at the end of each post. Convergence makes it easier for your visitors to find all your content by showing related and popular posts at the end of your articles. Social sharing buttons are integrated into the theme too.

Convergence comes integrated with Flickr and Twitter. All you have to do is provide it with your credentials, and it does the rest for you. The Twitter section could have been designed a tad bit better, but it’s not something you can’t enhance by yourself.

In summary, Convergence is one of the best themes around for those who are looking to create an image friendly website. It’s social media and ad friendly too. Best of all, the code is easy to understand and change. Pretty solid theme for designers and community websites.

Our Community: a pretty flexible theme for magazines, blogs, and business sites. It has multiple styles and has a very clean code. It’s ready to be localized.

Canvas theme: Canvas is another attractive theme that comes with a ton of customization options in the back-end. Width, layout, widgets, and many other aspects of this theme can be customized.

Sharp: quite a popular theme among designers and for a good reason. It’s very crisp looking and customizable. Sharp is ad friendly as well.

Initiate Theme: mostly designed for magazine themes, but it can easily be used to start a science or technology blog. Takes advantage of FlexiPanel.

WhiteHouse Pro: another clean WordPress theme with its matching forum template. So you can start a blog and its forum and get the same look and feel across your site.

Caulk can be used for personal blogs and magazine type websites. It has a pretty dynamic featured section that presents your articles in a super attractive fashion. You also have a popular post section right under the jQuery slider, giving you even more ways to promote your top posts. Caulk has 8 color schemes that you can easily play with in the back-end.

Caulk is ad and social media ready. It has a very attractive layout (w/ social buttons) for your visitors to take advantage of to share their favorite posts. Your related posts and their thumbnails are displayed after each post. Twitter is integrated into this theme too.

Caulk may be a very sleek theme, but I like it for its degree of customizability. You can show and hide various sections to make the theme fit your blog’s needs. A custom logo can be easily added to this theme too. It may not be the most expensive theme on the market, but Caulk does offer a lot of bang for buck.

The developers behind Thesis have focused on providing a set of powerful features to WordPress bloggers to help them customize the look and feel of their blogs easily and optimize their web sites for search engines in the process. So you don’t necessarily have to hard code any on-page optimization tactics to get your WordPress website ready for the search engines. Thesis 1.6 already covered a lot of these options under the options page in the back-end. But Thesis 1.7 has improved a lot in that area and does seem a bit more organized.

Thesis 1.7 has some of these options broken down into various sections. So customization options for the home page have moved to a whole different page (to make the whole process less confusing). So these features have not disappeared if you are comparing the two images above.

The Design Options page has gotten a major boost in Thesis 1.7. You can not only customize the look and feel of your website from this page, you can also customize your comment section, enable Javascript libraries, and even customize how you want your posts and thumbnails to show on your blog. Best of all, these new features have been added without making the whole back-end page more confusing.

You may ask what happened to some of the options that had disappeared from the first Options page. Thesis 1.7 comes with a whole new page (Page Options) to help you manage your pages’ settings more effectively. So you can easily customize your home page, category page, and tag page options.

All these options are now available in your dashboard’s option bar. So once you install Thesis 1.7, you should see these new options links in your Thesis section. Page Options, Site Options, and Manage Options are now included under your Thesis box in your WordPress dashboard.

Now here is my favorite part. Thesis 1.7 makes it so easy to save your options and settings and have the ability to restore them if something happens to your website. The Manage Options item makes it possible to prepare yourself for the worst case scenario just in case your blog disappears or breaks.

All in all, Thesis 1.7 goes a few steps above Thesis 1.6 and is certainly worth the upgrade. Of course, if you have the earlier version of Thesis, the option is available to you for free. If you have been waiting to have more options to optimize your Thesis theme, Christmas has come early with Thesis 1.7. Just imagine what Thesis 2.0 or 3.0 will be capable of.

Or you can just buy the developer edition from the get go for $164. What I like about the developer edition is the fact that it allows you to deploy Thesis on your clients’ sites for only $40 per site. That’s great news if you are a WordPress consultant. And if you don’t feel like linking back to Thesis’ homepage, you can remove the footer link as long as you get the developer license.
